Shaker: how to write down its use in a song?

Hello everybody,

I have added a shaker as an instrument, but - since I have never worked with this instrument in a notation system before - I do not know how to write down its use. For example: I wish that there is one shaker "move/sound" per one quarter note but all I could write down is a quarter rest. How do you usually do it / where can I find the right button for it?
