D.S. al Coda wird ignoriert?

• 23. Jan 2025 - 01:31

Hallo,
Vielen Dank!

Your 2. +3. volta was missing an end repeat barline at measure 17 - needed to set the Play count and also to refer playback to the start repeat barline. (Compare to measure 15.) Additionally, I put an end hook on the volta line (using the Properties panel).
Also...
I assumed you want the 1. volta at measure 32 to go back to the beginning of the Coda, so I added a start repeat barline to the Coda.

Other potential problems...
1. You show lyrics for only 3 verses. What lyrics are sung for the 4th time? (There is no 4th verse written as lyrics.)
2. The 2. +3. volta ends at measure 17 which has 4 beats. Playback then returns to the pickup measure of 1 beat which will disrupt the overall 4/4 rhythm. You may want to shorten measure 17 by 1 beat.
Compare to measure 6, measure 15, and measure 28. All have 3 beats - and return to the 1 beat pickup measure, maintaining the 4/4 rhythm.

Hi, thanks alot for your analysis and proposal for fixes.
Short comment: The D.S. al Coda does work now. But all the other repeats of Verses are wrong now.
In my example it was exactly the other way round. So what was the actual fix, you've applied to the D.S. al Coda to work? I do also like, how you have seperated the Coda from the rest. How is this done?

FYI here is the intended flow of the Score
Intro
(Segno) Verse1
Verse2
Chorus
Interlude (D.S. al Coda)
Verse3
Chorus (to Coda)
(Coda) Chorus
FINE
Sorry for the confusion, I should have mentioned that already in my initial post.
With regards to your comment about Verse 4, you are right, it is not finished yet and might be removed altogether. Since I have never figured out how to return savely to that verse after the chorus after Verse 3.

So it was intended to fit in here:
...
Verse3
Chorus
Verse4
Chorus (to Coda)
(Coda) Chorus
FINE
But I could not figure out how to set this up.

With regards to your comments about the 4 bar mesures in the Voltas to be 3 bars instead. I guess it becomes clear with the intended flow mentioned above. Since the Voltas from 2-4 are all going directly to the chorus, they need to be 4 bars. Only volta 1 jumps back to the beginning of the verse2 and therefore is 3 bars only.

thx again

So, now I have removed the Repeat in bar 17 (Volta 2+3) and changed the volta bracket back to open style and it is all working now!
Still my open question out of curiosity, how did you fix the the D.S. al coda?
I have to admit I do not see the differences, that made it suddenly work.
thx a lot!
