You can put the number of bars per staff you want by using Break or spacer .
Then you can space staves globally in Style -> Edit global style -> Page -> System distance. If you need to manually adjust the space between two systems you can use a Break or spacer

Thanks for that Lasconic......a few different terms.to follow but managed a fair effort...will try to be a little less impatient..... I come from the slate and pencil era....am reading thru' forum and have already picked up few answers...Thanks again , mardy.

I deleted the chordnames and for alternate endings, read Volta .

Thanks again ..have read volta thats how I did it......my musescore compressed file was spot on..then saved it as XML (with musescore) and thats where the errors appeared ...

To extend voltas, you need to double click it and shift + right arrow. If you use the mouse, the volta is extended in MuseScore but not in MusicXML.
