Multiple Instrument Change

There is an instrument change option that switches the sound of a stave to another MIDI channel; however changing back from that to the one before creates another channel, which is rather inefficient, and makes a mess of my mixer menu particularly for scores that require a doubling instrumentalist.
Am I doing this wrong, or is it supposed to be that way?
I do know that the stave text properties' channel switch remedies this, but I am too inexperienced with the xml and there is no comprehensive guide for that (Musescore).

In terms of documentation, you may not have come across https://musescore.org/en/developers-handbook/references/instruments.xml…. But I agree that there should be a way for an instrument change to return to a previous channel. Could you file a request for that in the issue tracker (http://musescore.org/en/project/issues)?
