My best guess is that you mean "ritardando" - commonly abbreviated "rit." You can enter that like any other text. Since it has to do with tempo, you could use tempo text (click a note, press Alt+T). But since it is normally formatted differently from regular tempo markings, you might be better off entering it as system text (Ctrl+Shift+T). Either way, you can further adjust the formatting using the text toolbar that appears at the bottom of the screen while typing your text.

I think Marc probably has it right and that we have yet another example of auto-complete screwing things up!
