converting time signature
i know i can change the time signature, and i know how to, but the notes remain the same, making it twice as fast when i change it to cut time. I just realized that i left it at 4/4 time instead of cut time, and when i change it to cut time all the notes stay as it was, like the 16th notes stay when i change it, but i want them to be 8th notes, so it would be easier to read. is there a way to do this without changing every single note?

Cut time is the same as 4/4, but the pulse is on each half note rather than on each quarter note.
As to what you seem to want, 1/2ing the notes themselves (making quarters into eighths, etc.) I believe there is some plug in that may be useful, but I haven't kept up with it's development. Some one else will point you in the right direction, if it exists.

This may be what you're looking for, but it requires a bit of jiggery-pokery to make it work in 2.0.x

There is another current thread that has some command line tools to do this.
