Help with brackets
Can someone please tell me what the attached picture is referred to and how do I delete them from
my measures? It's the number 8 with brackets. They show up automatically and I am unable to delete them in the normal fashion.
Thanks in advance

From what I can tell, it's a type of tuplet - "8 in the time of ..."

You may have to remove the notes, remove the tuplet and re-write the notes without engaging the tuplet.

Yes I believe you are right about it being a form of tuplet. I can't just delete it without the notes
also disappearing so you are correct that in order to get rid of them I have to re-write the notes. However I'm not sure if they will appear again automatically. We'll see. Thanks
Update: Didn't work. Whenever I delete the tuplet indicator and re-write the notes it comes back!
Don't know why it won't let me eliminate them!!

I finally figured it out by highlighting the tuplet, then going into inspector and choosing "nothing" for brackets and "nothing" for number and voila! The brackets are gone.

When you delete the notes, does the bracket stay?
If so you have to return to "unbracketed" mode.
You can, after you remove the notes, select the bracket and hit delete and the rests should return to normal and you should be good to go.
