Limit recent files

• Jun 30, 2012 - 19:03

I'm running MuseScore 1.2 on Windows 7 (x86).

After long sessions in MuseScore, I tend to accumulate a large number of files in the recent files list. The list often becomes too long to manage, and can even spread out across the entire screen at times.

I'm not sure whether the following has already been suggested, as it didn't appear in a search: Is there a hidden feature that can clear the list, or perhaps specify a limit to the number of files added to it? If not, it might be a good thing to include in future versions.

Here's the workaround I've been using in the meantime: I created a DOS batch file that will copy my MuseScore.ini from a backup location into MuseScore's subfolder under AppData\Roaming and overwrite the latest one. I've also made a shortcut to the command, which runs very quickly. I can't even see it in action (the batch file starts with the @echo off command, which hides the steps being carried out, and the shortcut runs the file minimized).

This is great, but if I decide to change any of my program preferences, I need to remember to back up the new MuseScore.ini. There also have to be no recent files listed in the backup.

The max number of files in the recent files list is 10 in MuseScore 1.2. But it's the number of entries persisted between session. So indeed if you don't quite MuseScore for a long time, the list can grow widely. But if you close and reopen, you should see only the last 10, no need to play with batch here.
