Instrument change - back to primary instrument
The Instrument Text changes instruments quite nicely - that's great. However, is there a way to revert back to the default instrument?
The documentation says:
the instruction to switch instruments is generally placed above the staff at the beginning of that section. A return to the primary instrument is handled in the same manner.
I can see no way to get back to the previous (or the default) instrument. Every time you add an Instrument Text to the score a new instrument is created - even if that instrument is the same as a previous one.
If you switch between two instruments 6 times you end up with 12 instruments to deal with. That's 12 pans, 12 sound font assignments, 12 volumes, etc. It should really be 2. Just 2. One for each instrument.
Even copying and pasting a previous instrument text makes a new instrument.
Is there no way of, when selecting an instrument for the text to be associated with, finding an existing instrument in the same staff that is the same and using that channel in the mixer instead of always creating a new one?
Instrument Text would be a really nice thing to be able to use, except for this one small flaw.

Unfortunately ever instrument change makes a new instrument in the mixer.
I wish it weren't so :(

It would be nice if there were an extra branch in the instrument tree listing the previous instruments in the same stave so that you can select one of those to link it to. That would be a nice way of handling the problem.

Agreed. And actually, internally it probably wouldn't be too difficult to make this happen - I suspect the GUI work would be the biggest part. Hopefully a future release will support this.
