Inserting voltas
I'm not sure if this is a bug in MuseScore, or just a display problem caused by running it on a wide-screen computer (1024x600, Windows 7, MuseScore 1.2):
Whenever I create a volta and point it specifically at the start of a measure, it shows up shifted to the right, about two-thirds of the way through the measure. When I drag it back into position, however, the dotted line shows me that the anchor is already at the beginning of the measure.
I have no other problems with voltas, and they always work properly in playback.

Make sure you do not move the mouse when you leave the left button.
See the dotted line when you drag, make a right angle with the bar lines.

Thanks, but that makes no difference here. I've always watched the dotted line, and it has always been at a perfect right angle with the bar line when I let go of the mouse. If I tilt it ever so slightly downward, of course, the volta will appear a bit lower, but still shifted off to the right by the same amount.
What is the aspect ratio of your computer's display? MuseScore is intended for a 4:3 display (e.g. 1024x768). I really think my wide-screen display is where the problem lies, because when I insert special text symbols in a title or some other text element, the character panel is partially off the right edge of the screen and has to be dragged to the left. Neither of these problems are serious, because I've gotten used to them and have been very productive with the software, but the behavior is odd, nonetheless.

Here works, full screen the position is correct. Ends above the bar line.
Maybe you can change the resolution of your monitor. Now I can not say more, I'm sorry, wait for the gurus ;-)

You may as well just drop it. The chances of getting in the right place are zero in my experience and that time is wasted. Once it's attached, then move it where you need to. It's all a work in progress :)

Yes, I realize that, and even if it is a work in progress, MuseScore has certainly proven itself as far as I'm concerned. My post was only out of curiosity and should not be understood as a complaint, so I'll treat this as case closed at this point. ;)
Yes, it's pretty much a given you'll need to adjust volta position manually. One of the few things for which you just can't set a reasonable default in your style settings and then expect it to snap into place automatically. Luckily, 2.0 *does* allow that. So for now, just grit your teeth and line up your voltas manually
