Unable to connect grace notes to main note
I have been unable to connect grace notes to the main note. It is really critical in the scores that I am writing that grace notes, either before or after the note, are connected by slurs to the main note.
The main problem seems to lie in selecting the grace notes and main note.
When I use shift+right arrow, it invariably connects to the next main note as well. This is very frustrating.
I have tried using the slur in the lines palette as well as typing s when it looks like the notes are selected.
I cannot find anything addressing this in the handbook.
Slurs work perfectly fine for main notes.
I know that this has been discussed in forums before, but this problem is NOT resolve.
I am using Windows 7 and MuseScore 2.1. (I updated it today, and just tested it.)
Thanks,
Walt

click the grace note, hold down Ctrl, click the main note, press 'S'
Just click on grace note, then press "s" on keyboard.
To connect a grace note to anything but the following note, use the click on the grace and ctrl-click the note at the other end of the slur and press s. This covers grace notes before or after as well as only several grace notes only. If you only want to connect 2 consecutive grace notes you can simply press s after selecting the first note.
I count this as a bug rather than by design. It should work the way it is in the handbook. It's probably because MuseScore does not consider a grace note a real note, that's why starting in 2.1 there was an extra button for grace notes added to the inspector when you select a section.

What version Musescore are you using? I remember similar problems in older versions, but in 2.0.3. and in 2.1 slurs connecting grace notes and their "parent" notes can be entered like any other slurs, at least on my computer. For grace notes before and after the main note alike.
BTW Mike320: As far as I know the method you describe applies for every slur between non-adjacent notes and is normal MS behavior (i.e. not a bug IMO). You can also enter the slur on the first grace note: You'll see the handle at the right end of the slur highlighted. Then extend the slur with the forward arrow key as far as you want (works for grace notes and "normal" notes).

I'm using 2.1. I've had problems making grace notes connect to parent notes since I started using 2.1, but I can't reproduce it right now. The problem had to do with editing not allowing the slur to stop on the second or third grace note after, so I always explicitly start by entering the slur if it has a grace note.
One of the problems that arises with slurs, is that if the slur goes to or comes from one, you can't type s, add notes until all the slurred notes are entered then press s again. This is a major difference compared to normal notes. So my above described behavior is an option with normal notes but necessary for grace notes.

There is a question if grace notes should be slurred to the main note by default. I can't remember seeing them in printed music without a slur.
Though in early 19th century editions they are almost never slurred to the main note (this is about true grace notes, not turns).

I have seen a few instances of grace notes not being slurred in romantic era and later (so not early 19th century). They also aren't slurred in drum music.

If you continue to have trouble, please attach your score and describe precisely how to reproduce the problem. But in general, click the grace note, press S, that should connect it to the main note unless there is a corruption of some kind in the score preventing this. Or if you have multiple grace notes, click the first, apply the slur, then use Shift+right to extend it. Or if you are trying to connect from a main note to a grace note after, start by selecting the main note. Works fine in all cases I have encountered.
