Palettes Menu

• Mar 5, 2013 - 22:11

I've noticed that using the Palettes menu is a little difficult on my smaller screen. When I drop down menus, the viewable space is very limited. This is largely due to the narrow screen that I have on my computer. However, I have also noticed quite a bit of wasted space at the top right of my screen. I was wondering if the file menu and such could be shifted to the right, to allow for the Pallets menu to be extended up to the top of the screen. Or, could the Pallets menu be placed at the right side of the screen, and extended to the top.

I attempted to drag the menu over there, but it wouldn't extend to take advantage of the whole screen height.

I'm using Musescore 1.3 on Ubuntu 12.10.

Thanks in advance.

Hi mmisbg -

You can detach the palettes from their default position, move them where you want them and resize them.

To detach the palettes, click where it says "Palettes" and drag them away from where they usually are when they are docked.

Now drag them over the the right of the screen, if that's where you have some extra space.

You can resize the detached (undocked) palettes by grabbing the border and dragging it out.

Sure enough.

The pointer (at least in the Ubuntu version) doesn't change to an up/down arrow when placed over the bottom of the Palettes menu. However, I did try clicking on the bottom of the menu, and it did in fact allow me to drag the bottom down.

Thank you.

You can free up some more space by getting rid of the playback icons and the Concert Pitch button and moving the Note Entry, Rests and Voices toolbars up to share a line with the remaining top-line icons. If you can also live without the Navigator window at the bottom you can hide it by unchecking "Show Navigator" in Edit -> Preferences -> General. Finally, if there are palettes that you just never use (e.g. Drums, Arpeggios, , Brackets or whatever) you can delete them to save a few more vertical pixels each.
