Reverb, Chorus -- Windows Media Files

I am working on Internet-transmissible MIDI files, playable by Windows Media Player. (Yes, perhaps I torture myself ;-) But I find that almost no effects processing (besides Pan) transfers to such files. Is this a lost cause -- is Windows too "top down"? Does the end user have to add back whatever effects they can? Is there a plug-in (or even a kludge) that would let me add *some* savable/Internet-transmissible Reverb and Chorus?
