How do I set up my musescore file for solo/choir/piano?

• Jun 24, 2013 - 23:29

I am creating a piece of music where I'll need one staff for soprano solo, two staves for SA and TB for choir, and two staves with treble clef and bass clef for piano accompaniment. I can figure out how to set up the file with four staves for SATB, but my choir parts are very simple, based on hymns, where the singers would expect to see their parts combined into SA on one staff and TB on a second. Can you tell me how I get started with this five-stave layout to accomplish this? Thank you

The way to get multiple parts combined onto one staff is to use Voices . So, when creating the score, select the "from scratch" option as opposed to template (because none of the provided templates fit exactly), and in the dialog where you select instruments, add three vocal parts and one piano part. The piano part will have two staves already. Then, when entering the notes, just enter the soprano solo part on the top staff, the soprano choir part in the next staff (using voice 1), the alto part on that same staff using voice 2, then tenor and bass on the next staff using voices 1 & 2 again, then the piano on the next two staves.
