Trouble with inputing certain notes in the sheet
How do I place notes in the same arrangement as above in musescore, but without the first quarter note that is above the half note? It won't even let me form chords between the half note and a different note type, much less what I described above.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Use voices. see: https://musescore.org/en/handbook/voices
Put the 1/4 notes in voice 1 and dotted 1/2 in voice 2. Put a rest in place of the first 1/4 and make it invisible by selecting it and pressing V.

It takes several spots in the handbook to understand what you need to do.
