Opening files
I converted my MuseScore files to PDF format, and now I can't open them up in MuseScore. What do I need to do?

a PDF Reader.
MuseScore files have a .mscz (or .mscx) file extension. They are the ones that can be opened (and edited/played) in the MuseScore app. Find the folder with the .mscz files.
PDF files are opened using an app like Adobe Acrobat reader.
Similarly, if you convert your MuseScore files into an audio format like .mp3/.ogg/.flac, then you will need an audio player to open and listen to the playback.

Where do I find the folder with the .mscz files? They all appear to be pdf now. I downloaded Adobe Acrobat Reader, but what do I do now?

Assuming you ever saved them in the first place, they are right where they you saved them originally. Nothing about the process of exporting to PDF would have in any way moved, deleted, or otherwise modified your existing MSCZ files. So if you originally saved them to your MuseScore2/Scores folder (that's the default), that's where they still are. If you originally saved them elsewhere, that's where they still are. If you opened them recently, you should also be able to find them in File / Open Recent.

They are not showing up in File/Open Recent, and when I try to open them in my documents library from within MuseScore, it tells me "No items match your search." This happens even when I choose "MuseScore files" from the drop down.

To clarify, I can open them alright from my documents, I just can't open them within MuseScore. I want to edit them further.

What you mean you can open them from your documents? If you mean can open the PDF, that's fine but irrelevant. You can't edit a PDF. You need to find your actual score - the MSCZ file you saved totally separately from the PDG you exported. At this point, Im wondering if you maybe be confused and never actually saved your file - exporting it to PDF is not the same thing at all. If you believe you both saved and exported it - to totally separate actions - can you say which you did first?

I realize I can't edit from the PDF. That's my whole problem. I want to open the MSCZ file and can't find it. All I can find is the PDF.
Yes, I saved the MSCZ files originally. I was working on them for a few weeks in MuseScore. Then I decided to save them as PDFs, and then I suddenly was unable to find the MSCZ files from within MuseScore.

Instead of usingUseScore to help you find the files, probably better to use the built in file search capability in Windows Explorer. Presumably they are just in a different that what you remember. Or you accidentally deleted then and they are in the recycle bin.

Yep, that was the problem - they were in the recycle bin. Thank you!

You're welcome, glad you got it figured out!
