Albums
I wanted to be able to load a group of scores at once. I thought creating an album would do the trick. When I load the album, all I get is a list of the scores in the album, but the scores do not get loaded into musescore.

you can open it through the Album Manager by clicking the Load button

To combine multiple scores into a single .mscz file, click Join Scores. The scores are combined in the selected order into one single score

Correct, that's not really the purpose of albums. That's more for specifying a set of scores you want to print all at once. You may be able load multiple scores at once by selecting them all in your file browser then dragging them into MuseScore, or using whatever other facility your particular OS provides for opening multiple documents at once (the above works for Windows Explorer in Windows 10).
