Owner problems in ubuntu version

I have previously used MuseScore in Windows 10 with no problems. Now that I recently moved to Linux ubuntu, I downloaded MuseScore and began creating a score and the silly thing says permission denied when I attempted to save it. Earlier this morning I inadvertently exited MuseScore and discovered that the system created a file in a subfolder of my home folder with the same name as the title that I was attempting to use. Now it will not let me delete that file. Permissions indicates that the owner is root. Obviously I am not a ubuntu expert.
