Making the note bigger in size?

Note heads appearing in any space on the staff already touch the adjacent lines. There is no extra space for the notehead to expand without crossing a staff line.
Simply use Format -> Page Settings... and increase the 'Scaling' (Staff space).
You don't have to make the paper huge (although the number of systems per page might decrease depending on how high you set the scaling).
