Sustained notes in pinano music using ties

I don't think there is direct support for sustained note notation, but I wanted to check before adapting some of the techniques discussed elsewhere that use the symbol pallet to attache open ties. (Gould p72)

There are two symbols I want to employ: the long open tie to the right of the note continuing to the bar end signifying sustain the not for its full value; the short open tie to the right of the note not continuing beyond the next rest, indicating sustain the note beyond its note value.
