grace note chord

I am trying to create a grace note chord, with no success. I've been searching online, and read the handbook:

It says to select the first grace note and then add subsequent ones as I would for any other chord. Exactly how do I select the first grace note? I can certainly select the grace note if I am not in note input mode, but can't add another note that way. In note input mode, it will not select the grace note, but goes to the regular note after it. Moving the cursor to the left selects the note (or in my case, the rest) to the left of the grace note.
