changing instruments mid-score on same staff
I've tried to follow the directions listed in the user manual, but it doesn't act like the instructions say it will, and I cannot figure out how to change the instrument. what am I doing wrong?

Not sure, we weren't there to see what you did..
Following the instructions definitely works.
So walk us through what and how you do things. Show us a simple score (attach it here) to start from, and then list where we should click things according to you.
Then mention where the result for you isn't the same as in the instructions.
Perhaps that way we can figure out where the bug or misunderstanding happens.
