Feature Request: 'Use Previous Instrument' in Change Instrument
My suggestion is to have an option when changing instruments to 'Use Previous Instrument', which could appear as a tick box in the 'Change Instrument' window. When this option is selected, rather than adding a 'new' instrument, the software instead uses the data from before the last 'Change Instrument'. That would mean:
--The part name, if changed from the default, is restored (rather than having to re-enter the part names).
--The mixer does not add additional channels, but it uses the same channels (and thus, same soundfonts and mixer settings) as before.
This saves the composer/arranger from having to modify (and keep consistent) custom part names and sounds after instrument changes.
Another possibility would be to have a drop-down list of all instruments currently in the score (including other parts). This would allow (a) for reverting to an earlier instrument after multiple instrument changes, and (b) allowing a change to another part while preserving the sound settings.

Yes, this is a common request and is the sort of thing I'm hoping to see covered as part of the big MuseScore 4 playback/UI redesign.
