Can't zoom-in in the piano roll editor.

I am on page 122 of the manual and it says to zoom-in use Ctrl + mouse wheel and/or Ctrl + Shift +mouse wheel but it is not working for me. Would anyone have any ideas as to what I might be doing incorrectly?
Thank you,

Your scroll wheel works in two directions, doesn't it?

Yes, my scroll wheel works in both directions.
I noticed under Preferences > Shortcuts Piano Roll Editor short cuts are set as follows which doesn't match the manual.
horizontal zoom = Ctrl + +
vertical zoom = Ctrl + Shift ++
This does not work as well.
I changed the defintion of the settings to Shift + z and Alt + x and those definitions will work for zooming in. I just don't understand why the other setting don't work as I would like to use the default settings?

Shortcuts depends on keyboard layouts.
On my laptop for example, I have no numeric keypad, so Ctrl+Shift++ is impossible to input (as a '+' is input as Shift+= for me).
I used Command + Shift Mouse wheel but it didn't work,
