i can't seem to locate how to add bowing markings in scores for bowed strings..in this case particularly the cello

By (advanced) Articulations palette.

It may be helpful to add a keyboard shortcut for them. I use shift+^ for upbows and shift+% for downbows. ^ for upbow because it resembles the shape, % just because it's next to the the ^.
Go to Edit>Preferences>Shortcuts there you can scroll and look for toggle up bow or toggle down bow, or just type bow in the search.
