Not all sounds listed in Mixer are available
iMac Catalina 10.15.7, MuseScore 3.5.0
The Handbook says:
'The "Sound" drop-down menu lists every instrument supported by your current SoundFont.'
The only SoundFont I have installed is MuseScore_General.sf3, which came with MuseScore.
I open the Mixer and click on the Sounds dropdown. The list that is shown includes what seem to be the familiar GM set, plus many other variants, some of them tagged "Expr.". See attached file.
When I select any of the familiar GM set, such as Clarinet, I get the sound I expect. But when I select one of the variants, such as Clarinet Expr., I get no sound at all. I conclude that either MuseScore_General.sf3 does NOT support the variants (in spite of what the Handbook says) and the variants are displayed by mistake, or there is some additional SoundFont that I have to add in order to support the variant sounds. Can someone explain?

It sounds like you changed the settings in the synthesizer. You need to make sure that in the Dynamics tab you have Dynamics method: set to Default(Single note...) and that CC to use: is set to CC2 (default). These are required for the sounds that say espr. to be heard. If you have this set, please include a picture of your synthesizer's Dynamics tab and a sample score so we can investigate further.

Thanks, Mike. I haven't gone to the Synthesizer settings since downloading MuseScore recently. There was an unexplained crash that may have had something to do with it. However, all the listed sounds are available now, and the settings are the ones you specify. Thanks for the quick reply.
