Read through the manual once so you know all of the goodies that MuseScore has to offer. For the first 6 months I used the program, I kept a PDF of the manual opened on my desktop and used my viewer's search feature to find what I wanted to do. I learned how to use the tools I needed. There are still some tools I don't use often. I'm learning about them, mostly from the forums.
