Drum score - notes seem to snap to line up with hi-hat
Hi. Very much a newbie. I'm trying to write a simple 4/4 groove- hats on 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 &, base on 1 ah 2 ah 3 ah 4 ah. I'm probably doing something simple wrong, but I can't get my base drum notes to sit where I want them. They seem to have a mind of their own. Any help appreciated.

there are plenty of drum score on here. have a nosey. You might work it out. Not sure what I did now.
If hats are on 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 & -- they will be eighth notes, yes?
To put bass on 1 ah you will need two 16th notes.

Hi. Yes, 8th and 16th notes.
Rough hand written 1st bar attached below. And a couple of grabs from Musescore also.
I've not been able to get the 3rd snare to sit between the 3rd and 4th hats. Musecore insists on snapping it to the hats (3rd image). Doesn't seem to matter whether I set the snare as 8th or 16th notes, same result. Any ideas? Appreciate your help !

Your hand-drawn notation doesn't make sense - without a rest on beat two in voice 2, it's entirely unclear what beat the next note comes in on. Assuming you mean it to come in exactly one sixteenth late,r you need to show that to anyone reading the score, by placing a sixteenth rest there.
And that's exactly how you do it in MuseScore as well. While entering the voice 2 notes, you need to enter a rest (eg, press "0").
Your MuseScore image also appears to shows different pitches than your hand-drawn image, so it isn't clear which notes are supposed to be which. if you attach the actual score instead of screenshots we can understand and assist better.
Bass drum would normally be entered into voice , down stem (so, keyboard shortcut B). The hi hat would be voice 1 or 2 depending on whether you intend it to be played with hands or feet, but I'm guessing from the context you probably mean hands (so, keyboard shortcut G). To enter the rhyth, simply work left to right in each voice. First enter the hi hat notes left to right in voice 1, then the bass drum notes left to right in voice 2. MuseScore normally handles the voice assignment automatically.
