Not understanding segno, DS, and repeats.
I'm quite new to reading music, but I can copy scores from PDFs and generally get MuseScore to play them back so that I can learn them by ear. Anyway, I'm trying to get it to repeat the same way as in a recording I've heard. (I know the tune well enough to sing along, I'm using MuseScore to transpose it and practice the flute part.)
Because I'm working with material under the copyright of others (for my own private use), I've stripped the file I'm uploading of just about everything except the stuff I think I'm concerned with. I hope I didn't strip out too much. But for what it's worth, the tune is "Goin' Up the Country" by Canned Heat, from their performance at Woodstock.
What is supposed to happen (I think):
- Play flute solo 1.
- Sing verses 1 and 2.
- Play flute solo 2.
- Sing verses 3 and 4.
- Repeat flute solo 2.
- Sing bridge.
- Play flute solo 3.
The "repeat" is set to "on". I've set the repeat lists in the voltas to match what the numbers in the score say. I've got two segnos, with different labels ("segno1" and "segno2"), and a D.S. all copied from the PDF. I've tried different combinations of "Jump to", "Play until", and "Continue at", in the D.S. but it always does (I think):
- Play flute solo 1.
- Sing verses 1 and 2. (or two verses that sound identical. I suppose it could be 1 and 3 or 1 and 4.)
- Play flute solo 2.
- Sing bridge.
- Play flute solo 3.
Maybe I've placed a segno or D.S. in the wrong place? Or a repeat count is wrong somewhere?

It's much better if you leave some notes (and lyrics), especially in the measures containing repeat barlines and volta lines.
Are the verses musically identical? What about pickup notes/lyrics leading into a verse, a begin repeat, or under a volta?
The Bridge is not labelled.
Are lyrics for verses 3&4 located beneath verses 1&2 in the score?
For your attached score, you should have used Ctrl+Del to actually remove, for instance, the middle 10 measures from the 12 bar flute solo 1 (from within the multimeasure rest), the middle 9 measures from the verses, etc. and created an abridged score clearly showing notes, lyrics, voltas, repeats and jumps. This way playback continuity can be checked (without all those multimeasure rests).
Also, the score would be "chopped up" enough to satisfy any copyright zealot -- just in case someone might discover and then whistle your attachment in public. ;-)

(I had briefly entertained the notion of posting the whole thing, but one time I put an entire play up on a private web site, and only told a few people where to find it -- the intent being to share it only among them. But, the web site, while privately owned wasn't restricted -- security through obscurity, and, I suppose a search engine cataloged it. The playwright found it and sent a very polite, but stern, take-down notice. I happily complied, with much mea culpa. The chance for mishaps seemed far greater here.)

In your abridged version, are the lyrics in bars 11 & 12 part of a verse, or part of the bridge? They overlap the bridge and so are not fully contained within it. I got rid of them for now.
So, following your instructions posted above:
Play flute solo 1.
Sing verses 1 and 2.
Play flute solo 2.
Sing verses 3 and 4.
Repeat flute solo 2.
Sing bridge.
Play flute solo 3.

But to answer your question about my question 😉... The PDF that I faithfully reproduced -- in appearance, at least -- has word Bridge: out at the "end of the volta line" (as shown in my reproduction). However, the lyrics in measure 11&12 "No use of you runnning..." start the so-called "bridge". ("I'm gonna leave..." in measure 10 starts the beginning of a verse.)
While far from being an expert, I question the musicnotes.com PDF that I'm working from. What they characterize as a "bridge", I would characterize as more of an "outro". The "arrangement" of the lyrics at https://genius.com/Canned-heat-going-up-the-country-lyrics are better though missing two of the flute solos, but, alas, the score I'm working from doesn't have the notes for what genius.com deems the bridge. (If you're not familiar with the song, it's an easy find on YouTube.)

I'm familiar with the song, but people can produce different arrangements. For instance, you say 4 verses. This:

shows 3 verses.
Also, regarding lyrics and notes:
If you enter only the first verse lyric under the melody notes and place your remaining 3 verses as a block of text somewhere else, the melody notes won't have to be manipulated as the number of syllables in a measure vary among the verses. I'm sure you have seen notation where melody notes are made small (and/or parenthesized) because they apply to a specific syllable of a different verse.
Since I am not a singer, but rather a solo instrumentalist, to me all verses are the same. When performing, I adjust "on the fly" if I wish to produce melody note (lyric) specific timings for a different verse. But it really doesn't matter as no listener is following sung lyrics (although they may be singing along mentally).
