Adding rests using a MIDI Keyboard - Musescore 4

• Jan 10, 2023 - 15:48

I use my MIDI keyboard to enter notes in musescore. In musescore 3, I could assign a note to rest (the equivalent of 0 on the computer keyboard. I would then use other midi notes to duration and use them in the same way as on the computer keyboard i.e. typing the note value then rest.

The same thing doesn't seem to work in musescore 4. The midi assign to rest toggles rest on the screen but doesn't enter a rest on the part. It just toggles on and off...

For example, pressing 2, 0, 3, 0, 4, 0 on the computer keyboard enters half rest, quarter rest, eighth rest

the same using my midi keyboard (which used to work in MS3) enters nothing. just a sequence of toggling note durations and rest. If I enter notes instead of rests, it works exactly as in MS3.

I can confirm that I see this on OS: Windows 10 Version 2009, Arch.: x86_64, MuseScore version (64-bit): 4.0.1-230121751, revision: 9b70a8c.

I seems like a bug, but it could just be an issue that it's not trivial to understand how to enter rests using a midi keyboard for input.

Just bought a MIDI controller and can't believe that you can only bind "Toggle Rest" to a MIDI input, which is completely useless and I believe just an error someone made when transitioning from MS3 to MS4. Can we instead please get the option to link "Enter rest" to a MIDI key?

Rests, going to next note, entering notes with midi keyboard - all of that is completely f*cked up in MS4. It worked seamlessly on MS3. Please, do something with this, cause now whole idea of this software is ruined. Cannot imagine entering piano scores and big jazz structures with pc keyboard!
