Select a note to add text
Add>Text>Stave Text
F8 and move text box to Below stave, at the bottom of the window
Go back and click in the text box to write in it and the text box disappears

Add the text before you move the box.
In MU4 the behaviour is changed (fixed?). The text box stays active after changing its position in the appearance panel.
It seems no big deal and as there are no planned official updates to 3.6.2 it is unlikely to get changed.
