musical questions about voltas and repeat signs
Can you have a repeat section before moving into a volta (and still call it volta 1)? Of course I could call it volta 2 because of the repeat but that doesn't make much sense, to not have a volta 1 at all..?
What about BEGINNING a volta with a repeat sign (second picture), and/or having an "end repeat" sign in the MIDDLE of the volta?
Does that make any sense, and if it's "not allowed", how are you supposed to write it? Because I really want to use repeat signs for identical parts, I don't want to write everything out (it's unnecessary and not elegant)

Your pictures both tell me to take the repeat before the voltas and go on. You have no instruction as to why you have both a 1st and 2nd ending, so you need a repeat instruction prior to the 2nd ending, otherwise why the 2 endings.

I'm not sure I'm following.
But does this work? Playing bar 72-75 twice because of the repeats - then move into volta 1, play to D.S., go back to the segno sign earlier in the score - eventually reaching bar 72-75 again (playing them twice again) and move into volta 2?
Is that correct, because it makes sense to me. It's just I've never seen an "end repeat" sign just before a volta 1.

Actually, we need a score. I can't tell what you want, either.
No and no - you can't use voltas in this way. You can only use them as alternate endings to sections between (and, then, after) repeat barlines.
As to how you write it, can you lay out what you want such as A A B A A C A [jump to Coda] ? Or, write one line of the score out in full and invite others to say how they would notate it. "Elegant" strikes a balance between writing a piece out in full and compressing it as much as possible by using complex instructions.
