Tablature string misbehaves after re-tuning string.
I had a guitar tablature score in standard tuning. When I changed the tuning of one string (3rd string from G to F#) I could no longer enter a note on it properly.
The first thing I noticed was that I couldn't use ctrl-up to move an F# from the 4th string, 4th fret, to the new open F# string. When I tried inputting notes on the F# string directly, I couldn't.
I thought it may have been a problem with my file, so I opened a brand new file. Entered a chord.
Changed the tuning of the 3rd string from G to F#.
Now I can use ctrl-up to shift a note from the 4th to the 3rd string, but i cannot enter any notes on the F# string. All the other strings are fine.
I tried saving the file, closing MS, and reopening. I still cannot edit the 3rd string by using number keys.

In Edit String Data the "Always Open" property for string 3 is checked.
Uncheck it and input will work normally. See the attached score.
"Always Open" confuses a lot of users. It's for unfretted/unfingered floating strings like the lower bass courses on a lute.

Ah, thank you! Makes a lot of sense. I should have noticed that (although on my system the dialogue window truncates that to "Always op"!)
Just a suggestion: having that tick box to the left of the string note indicator makes it look like a simple selector. I'm guessing changing string note is the more common use of the dialogue. If that were first, and the option for open string to the right, perhaps less attentive users like me would be less likely to make this mistake.

Yes. The Column header here is truncated to "says op""
• widening the dialog makes no difference
• only solution is to make the column wider
Regarding your suggestion to move the checkbox, it falls in line with many suggestions and complaints and even incredulity about the mere existence of the property:

I guess I can see the usefulness of the "Always Open" feature (when automatically transposing or editing a score and you don't want fretted notes appearing on those strings). But perhaps a toggle would be less likely to be misused than a tick box?
