Recording parts from midi keyboard in real time without a DAW

There is a "real-time" mode in MuseScore, see https://musescore.org/en/handbook/4/alternative-note-input-methods#real…
You can access it by clicking and holding the pencil icon in the top-left next to the note lengths.

Have I understood you correctly? Do you want to input notes with your own MIDI keyboard?

I've wanted REAL real-time note input since I started using MuseScore almost four years ago.

This concept should be simple for people to understand if they've ever witnessed/encountered genuine real-time note input via a MIDI keyboard:

  • Plug in your MIDI keyboard and make sure your MIDI settings properly manage it.
  • Set up a track with the desired instrument
  • Set MIDI thru
  • Set the desired tempo
  • Start Real-time recording
  • Hear the desired amount of count-in clicks, or set a punch-in area and listen to the run-in measures.
  • Play along with the metronome and/or existing tracks of the score

There is real-time note transcription in Dorico, Sibelius, Overture, Encore, Finale/Hyperscribe and elsewhere, even in DAWs that provide a limited notational view, like Apple Logic.

Unfortunately MuseScore's so called "real time note entry" is not remotely elegant or similar. On a number of levels it seems MuseScore has a MIDI allergy. So strange, especially, cording to my understanding, MuseScore began as a MIDI sequencer, and therefore must've had real time input.

I agree. I want to migrate over from Finale to Muse Score. But many of my scores are currently being generated in Finale using a utility called "Hyper Scribe." In Hyper Scribe, you set a tempo for the metronome as well as other perimeters, such as time signature, smallest note value to quantize, whether to tie notes to next measure, etc. You then start the metronome and play your melody. Both the pitch AND the rhythmic value can be varied (within the chosen quantize value). Is there some fundamental architectural design reason why Muse Score cannot do this, or is it simply that this is a feature which has yet to be added?

I am beyond equally frustrated with this. This exact feature was present in the version that was around in 2018. I used that feature regularly and it was very useful. Now it is gone for some reason. And when I right click on the 'Pencil' icon, only the Defauly mode is highlighted and I don't have an option to choose even Real Time Metronome. And there is absolutely NO information on the internet as to why this featured disappeared.

I'd love to do real-time MIDI recording with MuseScore by using the Piano-Roll view without setting a tempo before.

Because that would reflect my creative process.

Then after recording I'd like to set the tempo according to the recorded tempo of the notes (automatically).

Actually, I don't know any DAW that could do this smoothly.
