Idea (based on something Dorico can do): instead, use the default template with separated winds and then make a way to implode them together. Basically the implode function with some added details such as keeping them on two staves for more complicated stuff and using one voice when appropriate.
Of course, you would keep the parts same as before.

So, idea: add “condense” to the same menu as “explode” and “implode” and it asks you what staves to choose and displays them on one staff, of course keeping the parts the same. It decides when to include notes in one or two voices. And you can choose systems to separate them.

This has been possible since dynamics for individual voices were added in 4.4 (or since 4.0 if you didn't need them to have different dynamics).

Use one voice for each instrument, and then generate two parts for that staff. Click the cog symbol next to the staff in the Layout palette, and select "Voices visible in the score" based on which instrument that part is for
