VDL midi input note shortcut help

I am trying to use a virtual drumline audio file to write music for my band. I also have a MIDI keyboard to help me write the music but I have no idea how to make the midi input notes as shortcuts for the drum notes. Is there a workaround for this? I don't know if I need to edit the "Note" tab or the "Shortcut" tab and if so I don't know how to edit them for midi input notes.
