Dynamics placement for singers

• Mar 4, 2024 - 21:24

Hi,

I am currently scoring Stainer's Crucifixion. It's coming along great so far but one issue I have is that I manually have to flip every dynamic marking on the singers' staves so they don't interfere with the lyrics. Is there a way to change that score wide so that dynamic markings are always above the staff for certain instruments/singers.

Also, I found Musescore to become quite slow with increasing file size. Especially when entering notes or lyrics. Is there something that can be done to increase performance? I tried muting the sound but that didn't change much.

Thanks in advance.

How big of a file are you working with?
Select the first vocal dynamic. Right click and select Similar>Similar on this staff. In the properties tab, select Above.

Stainer's The Crucifixion consists of 20 numbered sections, so the easiest solution would be to create a separate score for each section. When you have finished all the note entry, you can then re-assemble the entire work using copy-and-paste. But before pasting in a new section you have to make some changes at the end of your main score:
a) add any change of key signature and time signature to match the start of the new section
b) append enough extra measures to receive the new section
c) add any changes of key or time signature to match changes which occur anywhere within the new section
d) ... and before pasting you must change any measures of non-standard length (e.g. split or shortened measures), to match the measure durations in the new section
