MIDI output in MuseScore Studio 4.4.1, Windows 10

OS: Windows 10 Version 2009 or later, Arch.: x86_64, MuseScore Studio version (64-bit): 4.4.1-242490810, revision: 0b3dd00

There used to be an Edit/Preferences/I/O menu with selections like "Microsoft MIDI GS" or some such that generated tones. That's gone, and Edit/Preferences/Audio & MIDI has no selection for "the windows MIDI device". Audio set to the "System default" comes out the system default, but as though its volume is PWMed with a very fast square wave (unusable). What's the right way to set up "input from MIDI keyboard, output to Windows sound system"?
