Screen flicking to a completely random position when changing note value/adding notes

• Sep 13, 2024 - 15:14

I usually work on very large orchestral compositions, so its easy to get lost within the large swaths of instruments and bars.
Sometimes, when I add a new note or change the value of said note, my screen gets flicked to a completely different location. This only happens when I'm zoomed in.
This is really pissing me off because I need to take 5 seconds to reorient myself before I can continue.

Yeah, I agree that it's annoying. :-(

What's probably happening is that MuS "knows" that you are viewing (something like) page 16, at 10 cm down from the top and 6 cm right from the left edge. When you make a change, that change sometimes causes a re-pagination. So it re-paginates, causing the particular change to be earlier or later than "page 16, at 10 cm down from the top and 6 cm right from the left edge" but MuS is still displaying "page 16, at 10 cm down from the top and 6 cm right from the left edge".

However, it's usually easy enough to get back to where you were working. The note you just modified (or the note immediately after it) is still selected. If you move forward or backward, with left arrow or right arrow, it will select the next or preceding note and will jump to the newly selected note. In other words, the note immediately before (if you used left arrow) or after (if you used right arrow) that place.

Occasionally, you'll need to go back the other direction to find what you want, especially if the change is immediately before or after a page break. If you do that, remember that you have to go backwards as many forward steps as you took to reach the point where you are going in that direction from the original starting point. That is, say the score jumped. You hit left arrow twice. But it's still not in the correct place. You'll need to press right arrow twice just to return to where you were when the display jumped. So press right arrow twice MORE to move into terrain you haven't seen (since the jump, that is).

Hope this helps!! Good luck!!
