Major to miney key - and reverse - Midi files

• Dec 19, 2024 - 14:50

I'd love to be able to transpose a midi file song from major to minor key, to hear, sing, and listen to it in minor key instead, but how do I do this?

When hitting Ctrl + A, and selecting transpose, it just says transpose to Eb major/C minor for instance, but it always chooses the major key of those 2, if the original key is in major. Would love such a feature in musescore, if possible different from the transpose feature.

Fair, but this isn't for me, I want everyone to be able to do this with one click, without sny knowledge of music at all, that's what I expect AI to be able to do eventually, or write phonetic lyrics of songs, or do choral harmonization, I have no use for all the current AI chatbot features.

This is WAAAY outside of AI's capability at this time. In the future, ... who knows? But I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it. :-)

For a relatively simple melody ... and a fairly simplistic interpretation, you can use the Transpose tool twice. First Tools / Transpose / Transpose chromatically / By interval / Up / Minor third and click the box to Transpose key signatures. Click OK. Then, Tools / Transpose / Transpose diatonically / Down / Third.

Strictly speaking, this transposes from "Major" to "Natural Minor" (or from "Ionian" to "Aeolian" mode). When one composes in "minor" one usually uses the "Melodic Minor" (with occasional substitutions from "Harmonic Minor" and "Natural Minor").

In addition, although there is a box to Transpose chord symbols, it will probably not get them right ... for what you want ... because that is outside what the Transpose tools is designed for and can do.

In other words, a one-click modulation of this nature is not going to be available anytime in the foreseeable future. While, with only a little training and understanding, a human can do it fairly quickly.
