How To change a chord symbol abbreviation want Dminmaj7 instead of Dmin(#7)

• Feb 23, 2025 - 01:12

I tried looking in the XML files inside the app itself, and couldn't find the symbol to change..how does one globally substitute a chord symbol abbreviation?

Thanks,

As far as I can see, there's no way to change more than one chord symbol at a time. Double click a chord symbol and make the necessary change, then do it again.

There are xml files that outline what the different symbols are, and what each abbreviation is used for each type but the format is not very clear and doing a search through the files didnt make it obvious or show the specific symbol. Just looking how to make it so any chord that is MinMaj7 doesnt show up as Dmin(#7) that is not a very common way of it being notated.

I mean that you cannot make the change en masse. Find the first Dmin(#7) and double-click it. Select the entire chord name. Type Dminmaj7 (or DminMaj7 or DmM7) in its place. Press Space or Ctrl+Right to move off the chord name. Now find the next incorrectly named chord and change it the same way. Repeat as necessary.

Yes, I am trying to avoid this and there is an additonal context I didn't include - these are imported MusicXML files and I am trying to modify how already created cord symobls are interpreted, not ones I enter myself, those I can do by hand and enter however I want. I was looking for some kind of mapping that looks at the incoming XML and uses a specific abbreviation for a specific chord in a way I can control.
