How to add lyrics to my piece for voice and piano

• Mar 7, 2025 - 04:57

I submitted a problem recently to Community but have not received comments. What am I doing wrong? I am writing a song cycle for voice and piano. I used to add lyrics by hitting C+L. I never had a problem. Now, when I do the same thing, it changes notes and ruins my piece. I have to constantly erase, etc. What is the solution to this vexacious problem? Help please!!

Handbook / Text / Lyrics takes you to https://musescore.org/en/handbook/4/lyrics. You'll find that it's not C+L, but Ctrl+L while a note is selected (and this is what it has always been). "C" is the shortcut to add the note named "C". I'm'a guess that's what has "change[d] notes and ruin[ed] my piece".

I recommend this to every user I communicate with. Take an hour or two and simply read the entire MuseScore 4 Handbook. Don't try to memorize it! Just skim through it and familiarize yourself with the contents! But read it all!!! Then you'll have an idea where to find things when issues come up in the future. "Didn't I see something about that in the Handbook?"
