MuseScore 4.4 displays splash screen only

• Mar 7, 2025 - 17:04

After invoking MuseScore 4.4, I only get the splash screen, but no application ever appears. Task Manager shows the .exe is running. I was using MuseScore 4.4 earlier in the day to input a large number of scores that were created under various earlier versions. I then converted them to the latest version of MuseScore and saved them (probably over a hundred scores). Then when I went to input yet another outdated score, I experienced this issue. No change of output speakers occurred (for a long time, MuseScore and my Bose speakers were incompatible, but that issue has since been resolved). I am using Windows 11 Pro with a newly rebuilt operating system and a very powerful one year old Dell PC (Xps 8950 with loads of memory and storage).

Shut down your computer completely. Let it think about its sins. Then restart. If that doesn't work, go to Control panel>Programs and features>MuseScore4 and try a repair.

I agree. It's an expression my wife used to say while she was teaching teachers how to use the software sold by a company she used to work for. Their computers could be notoriously out of whack to begin with, and sometime had to be shut down and restarted. As you know, a simple restart is different from a shut down and then restart. A simple restart doesn't clear things as well.

You may close this bug report. I tried Grok3 and it offered a series of suggestions to follow to troubleshoot the issue. When uninstalling and reinstalling Muse Hub and MuseScore didn't work, I deleted all the files under the C:\Users(username)\AppData\Roaming\MuseScore\MuseScore4 folder and MuseScore 4 began working again... I was very impressed with how knowledgeable Grok3 was about MuseScore and the ordered troubleshooting steps it recommended to resolve the problem.

Well, you never said you where un-installing. Yes the proper way to do that is to not only delete files in AppData. There are files in other places that could stand to be deleted, also. The best way is to save your scores and any addon sounds. Then run a search of your hard drive for MuseScore4 and delete what comes up.
