Suddenly not able to re write the number of times a volta/repeat should be played

• Apr 8, 2025 - 01:07

This is something I've done many times before...I open the inspector, click on the volta, scroll down to the volta repeat list, and type in the numbers to show how many times a volta is played. Now, when I type in the numbers, there is no change to the lead sheet itself. In the past, I've done this, and I can see the lead sheet change as I type. Musescore isn't transferring what I type into the volta repeat list onto the lead sheet. Any ideas as to how I can fix this? Or if I'm suddenly missing something? Thanks so much!

Since you mentioned the "Inspector" - which is a feature of MuseScore 3 - see:
https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/voltas#volta-properties
...and be aware of the difference between the numbers which show under the volta bracket(s) "in the lead sheet itself" (which are considered as text). and the sequence, or order of repeats, in which the volta is to be played (considered as the 'Repeat list'). They are different.

For MuseScore 4, see:
https://handbook.musescore.org/notation/repeats/voltas#changing-appeara…
and:
https://handbook.musescore.org/notation/repeats/voltas#changing-playbac…
...which, under the Properties panel, also mention the difference between the Text tab (for the numbers displayed) and the Style tab (for the 'Repeat list').
