How do you get the software to recognize and play multiple repeats before the final ending?

• Apr 20, 2025 - 21:15

This gong has 5 verses. I'm hoping to get it to play the four verses using ending #1 and then the fifth verse using ending #2.

thanks

My example was created in 4.4.4 because the computer I had upgraded to 4.5.1 died on me :-(

  1. Write the notes that go in the volta measures.

  2. Add the voltas from the Repeats & jumps palette.

+ You'll see that my first volta is two measures. To do that, select both (all!) measures and click the entry from the palette.
+ Use the first volta for your endings 1-4 and the second volta for your ending 5.
+ In my example, the second volta is actually the end of the piece so, strictly speaking, the second volta has the ending hook. If you were going to continue to a second section after the repeat and endings, you would use no hook at the end.

  1. Add the end-repeat sign (also from Repeats & jumps) at the end of the first volta.

  2. Select the measure with the repeat (the last measure of the volta). Right-click on the measure. (Don't right-click on a note or rest, just on blank space within the measure.) From the context menu that appears, click on Measure properties.... Then, on the Measure properties dialog, near bottom right, change the Play count field from 2 to 5.

  3. Click the first volta to select it.
    a. Go to the Properties panel (near top left). Under Volta / Style, set the Repeat list to
    "1, 2, 3, 4"
This describes which repeats this volta will play on.
    b. Then, under Volta / Text, set the Beginning text to
    "1.-4."
(or whatever you want the text to be!). This sets only the text that appears on the volta.

  4. Click the second volta to select it. Once again, on the Properties panel / Volta / Style, set the Repeat list to "5" and the Beginning text to "5."

And that should both play and appear as what you want.
