Alternating between Usual and Unusual Meters

Hi! I'm looking for a way to alternate between usual meters--featured in the time signature tool (i.e.; 2/4 or 9/8)--and unusual meters (i.e.; 5/8; 7/8; 11/16; etc...) in the same piece of music. I am able to alternate from one usual meter to another, like from 6/8 to 9/8 then back to 6/8, but the program will not allow me to alternate from 5/8 to 6/8 then back to 5/8. Is this a feature problem of the software, or am I unaware of a special trick? Thank for the help!
