Louder Volume
Louder volume during playback. When on max volume my computer can barely produce audible sounds so I have to wear headphones when composing.

Did you check out the mixer? Just go to "View>Mixer" and you will find the volume for the instruments. That's if you haven't already tried that.

No- I use the mixer all the time that's not it. I think its just a volume in general kind of thing.
I suppose it could be my computer- though it's a macbook pro and I've only owned it for 3 months. It works fine playing anything else so I'm pretty sure it's a problem with musescore.
The Play Panel can be used on a case-by-case basis to increase the volume almost beyond belief. I believe that the similar setting in the Synthesizer panel is saved for the next time you open MuseScore.
