MuseScore slow opening - possible solution
Hi team!
I tried exiting out of Musescore in two ways. I got the the following consistent results:
1- Click the Windows X button (upper right corner) - next opening time 30 to 45 seconds.
2- Use File-->Quit - next opening time less than 5 seconds.
I checked on the the Internet about the differences between closing a program in the these two fashions. There are no real clear-cut answers, however, from what I read, it's possible when you use the X button, certain flies don't close. That's only a guess.
All the same, I would advise using Marc's Quit button. There you go.

P.S. This mimics a similar problem I encountered on a Unix machine many years ago. The system would hang, and then take forever to reload. The IT guys discovered that the Unix kernel was not emptying. Once full, the system would hang. Sounds like a similar issue.

Hi folks,
Forget this idea. For some reason, MuseScore is loading very slowly again. I suspect it is a Windows issue. That is, I have more faith in the MuseScore developers than any Bill gates bloatware!

Hmm, well, still, the fact that it worked for a while may give a clue to anyone who knows about such matters. So hopefully it still proves to be valuable information.

Thanks, Marc.
I'll keep trying to find out why this is happening. It is strange that only a few users are reporting this. It leads me to believe my system is doing something out of the ordinary. Again, I believe it has something to do with Bill Gates' bloatware :). Just a stab in the dark--does your application depend on .Net to be fully operational?
On the other hand, MuseScore is the only program that takes a long time to load. Don't you just love a mystery?! Meanwhile, it does several key things I need it to do that Sibelius won't do, at $1,000 (Canadian)!!

Have you already tried turning off the Start Center in Edit / Preferences, or starting with the "-w" option to disable the web view within it? That's the main thing I can think of that would be eating time. Not sure what might depend on .NET, but the web view could definitely be hitting issues with firewalls or whatever.

Hi Marc,
In Preferences-->Program Start, I only have the Start empty option button selected. The other check boxes and option buttons are not selected. For example, Show start center is not selected. Is this correct?
Also, under the Shortcut Properties for MuseScore, the Target line reads:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\MuseScore 2\bin\MuseScore.exe"
The Start in line reads:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\MuseScore 2\bin"
I'm using Windows 7 Pro, 64-bit.
How do I add the -w switch? What's the correct syntax? Many thanks.

I believe you can just add a space then -w to the Target line, right after the "MuseScore.exe".
As for the preferences, it's not a matter of "correct", but what you have is indeed consistent with what I was suggesting - you have Start Center turned off.
