request: don't create multiple start menu folders
Currently in 'doze if I install 0.9.2 and then "upgrade" to 0.9.6.2, it installs two folders within the Start Menu, which is a bit unexpected (especially as it appears they all actually point to the latest version, 0.9.6.2, so it is misleading a tidge).
Thanks!

It is recommended that you uninstall the previous version before installing the new version. This will remove the old start menu.

Do you think it would be better to remove the version number from the Start menu directory ?

True you can do it manually. I've had problems with it not deleting the old program files menus, though.
I don't know too much about NSIS, but appears you can have it uninstall the previous version first [1] (or you could just write to Program Files\MuseScore (no version number) and thus overwrite the links--that would probably work).
Cheers!

I could do a patch for this to (prompt to uninstall the previous version on install)...would my patch be likely to be accepted?

This is listed in the issue tracker:
#6202: Automatic uninstall of previous musescore installation
Patches are welcome and should be attached to that thread. If the patch is written, it is likely to be accepted.

The main issue with such patch will be translation... We will need to find a way to translate the provided strings.

I suppose we could just pipe the uninstall string through google translate. Would that be good enough?

"If the patch is written"
I meant to say "If the patch is written well"
