Pause lengths in different parts
I have pauses over different parts at the same place in my score. Could anyone tell me how the playback works out what overall pause length to use if different lengths for different pauses are specified? Does it take the longest?

Look at the topic of Voices in the Handbook:

Using two separate voices on a single stave allows notes and rests of different durations to co-exist - provided that the total duration for each voice matches the length of the measure.

I think there may be a confusion of terminology and suspect the OP is referring to pause = fermata rather than pause=rest.
On that assumption, my answer is that where there are coincident fermatas the playback respects the longest of the specified time stretches.

Yes, good answer: the longest pause is what wins.
